The town where we live

Sárvár is a moody town of 17.000 inhabitants. It developed on the crossing of important  highways. today it is to be found near the Hungarian section of the highway Vienna – lake Balaton.

Already in 1328 it gained the right of free royal town. In the 16-17. Centuries under the rule of the counts Nádasdy its importance increased. While the Turks ruled the major part of the country, here the masters of the castle – who were excellent politicians at the same time – established schools, printing office, good working farm. The importance of the care for the culture is shown by the fact, that the first printed book of Hungarian language was issued here in 1541.

In the later centuries the inhabitants mainly worked in the agriculture, the real industrial development started only at the end of the last century. Also nowadays Sárvár is worthy of its historical heritage. We may consider as symbolic continuation, that the castle is the  citadel of the culture at the same time. In addition to the fact, that its fate became inseparable from that of the town, a rich local historical collection, library and culture centre are to be found in it.

The tourism of the town has shown a great development in the last decades, it is due not only to its individual beauty, but also to the force of the medicinal waters  found in the years of 1960, to the European reputation of its the thermal bath and the medicinal hotel Danubius.

The industrial development of today is also spectacular. Today the agricultural settlement before a century became the second industrial centre of the county.
